About this event

WE STILL OUTSIDE: LANTERNS AFTER DARK

A Hike & Dine Night Hike Experience

The trails hit different after the sun goes down.

Join Hike & Dine on Saturday, November 14th for Lanterns After Dark, a group night hike through Brighton State Recreation Area. We’ll be trading daylight for lanterns, headlamps and flashlights as we experience the woods after dark together.

This hike is happening during our Fall Campout weekend, but you do not have to be camping with us to participate. Campers and non-campers are both welcome to meet us at our campsite at Brighton Recreation Area for the experience.

THE NIGHT HIKE

Once the sun goes down, we’ll gather as a group before heading onto the trail. Hike & Dine will lead the experience as we navigate the route together at a comfortable nighttime pace.

Night hiking gives you a completely different view of a familiar outdoor setting. Visibility changes, sounds become more noticeable, and even an easier trail can feel completely different once daylight disappears.

We’ll stay together, take our time, and make safety a priority throughout the hike.

BRING YOUR LIGHT

Every participant is required to bring their own reliable light source.

A headlamp is strongly recommended because it keeps your hands free while navigating the trail. Lanterns and flashlights are welcome too, and we encourage everyone to bring backup batteries or an additional light source just in case.

Come prepared with:

• Headlamp, lantern, or flashlight

• Backup light or batteries

• Warm layers

• Comfortable hiking shoes or boots

• Water

• Any personal hiking essentials you may need

November evenings can get cold quickly, so dress warmer than you think you’ll need.

OPEN TO CAMPERS AND NON-CAMPERS

Our Fall Campout will be taking place at the exact same park we will be hiking at.

You do not need to register for the Fall Campout to join Lanterns After Dark. Non-campers can register specifically for the night hike and meet the group directly at the designated meetup location.

Please keep in mind that our Fall Campout campsite is separate from this event. Due to our nighttime campground hours and regulations, non-campers will be allowed in and out of the park until 10PM.

BEFORE YOU HIT THE TRAIL

Even when a trail is considered easier during daylight, hiking after dark adds another level of awareness.

Roots, uneven ground, fallen leaves, mud, low branches, and other natural trail conditions can be more difficult to see at night. Stay aware of your surroundings, keep your light on while moving, and follow the group’s pace and instructions throughout the hike.

FIRESIDE VIBES AFTER DARK

The hike ends, but the night keeps going! After Lanterns After Dark, join us back at our campground for hot chili, warm drinks, fireside chats, and plenty of laughs around the bonfire. Grab your chair, bring your blanket, and get cozy with the Hike & Dine crew! These are the fall moments you’ll want to stay up for!
