- ➤ Crews placed new roof trusses on the fire damaged house above a cherished underground music venue at 2923 Dexter Road in Ann Arbor on Jan. 14 — community groups with 77-year-old John Williams are continuing rebuilding efforts to restore Johnny's Speakeasy and plan to host private concerts later this fall. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Jan. 13 study by the Michigan Association of State Universities finds public universities generate nearly $45 billion in economic activity and a 28 to 1 return on a $1.6 billion state investment, enrolling 250,000 students and creating 100,000 jobs. U-M, based in Ann Arbor, is a key contributor. MLive

- ➤ Ann Arbor will use its $4.3M grant to launch Cultivate Midtown — a project to improve streetscapes, add public art, and revitalize the Blake Transit Center area. The state grant program also supports five other Michigan cities in enhancing walkability and vibrancy to attract new residents. MLive
