EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kent Syverud has been named UM's 16th president, with his term starting on July 1 after years of rapid leadership changes. The Board of Regents announced his appointment on Jan. 12 + he brings leadership experience from Syracuse University. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A University of Michigan student built a live map that tracks Ann Arbor parking tickets by scraping public city data, showing citation details (such as times and hotspots) and drawing thousands of visits since its launch last week. MLive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ On Jan. 14, Jewish Family Services of Washtenaw County received a notice terminating a federal grant that supports behavioral health services for youth, but funding was restored on Jan. 15, protecting $2.4 million in anticipated services for children & teens; the agency still awaits reimbursements for the last two months. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Ypsilanti’s first railroad depot — originally built in 1838 and later serving the Michigan Central line — is on sale at 90 Maple St for $375K; the 0.601-acre site has been offered since Jan. 15. MLive
