- ➤ Espy Cafe, located at 404 W. Huron St., opened on Jan. 10 after a five-year transformation of a former metal shop, built & managed by local workers. The cafe serves food and coffee and uses a democratically run model where staff help co-own the business. MLive

- ➤ Ann Arbor author Lynn Baldwin released her children’s picture book 'My Backyard Used to Be' to celebrate Michigan’s 189th birthday on Jan. 26. The book traces a local backyard’s history from farm to modern day and launched at Schuler Books in Westgate Shopping Center, and is available online. MLive
