EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Michigan colleges were ranked among the world's top 100 globally, with the University of Michigan at No. 9 and Michigan State at No. 84, according to TIME’s ranking list released on Wednesday, Jan. 28 — using measures of academic performance, innovation and global engagement.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Washtenaw County recognized local leaders with the 2025 Environmental Excellence Awards for protecting water quality, reducing waste and preventing pollution. Recipients included Dexter-based Alpha Metal Finishing, Ypsilanti Township for its eight rain gardens & 150 trees, and Washtenaw Community College for its recycling and composting efforts.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents at a Ypsilanti Township meeting on Thursday questioned transparency in the joint University of Michigan–Los Alamos high-performance computing facility project, citing conflicting details (including environmental impact and utility rates) and urging officials to clarify what remains a choice between two site candidates.  MLive
  • City officials plan to issue $35M in bonds to finance a 20-story affordable housing high-rise at 350 S. Fifth Ave. City Council approved a notice on Jan. 20, and construction will break ground this spring as property tax revenue from a 20-year millage will repay the debt + interest.  MLive
