CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County now operates at 3261 Lohr Road in Pittsfield Township and houses the Black and Bicentennial exhibit covering 200 years of Black history. The museum is free on weekends and will host the Black Creatives Summit on Thursday, Feb. 5. WXYZ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Ann Arbor City Council approved a tax capture plan for Arbor South development at State Street and Eisenhower Parkway on Monday night (vote was 8 to 2). It is projected to generate $329 million in tax revenue for local investments and awaits Washtenaw County review before a 2026 start. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor officials plan to extend the downtown bikeway network this spring to connect with the University of Michigan medical campus by eliminating on-street parking along Catherine Street from Division to Ingalls to boost safety for cyclists and pedestrians – marking a key step in the city’s transportation improvements. - ➤ U.S. Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed held a town hall at the historic Chelsea Depot on Monday, Feb. 2 to share his Medicare for all plan and call for keeping money out of politics — about 100 local supporters attended. MLive
- ➤ Chelsea School Board adopted a policy on Monday, Feb. 2 to require a judicial warrant before immigration enforcement officials enter non-public school areas; local officials say the measure follows recent detentions in a nearby community and aims to keep schools safe. MLive
