- ➤ An Ann Arbor family built a nine-foot rainbow igloo on their front lawn on Verle Avenue in cold January, spending nearly six days to complete it with friends' help. The glowing structure, lit by a battery-powered lamp, is expected to last while cold temperatures hold. MLive
- ➤ University of Michigan and Los Alamos planned a high-performance computing center for national security research with advanced simulations. An open house last August in Ypsilanti Township addressed local environmental and power concerns; officials stressed no weapons will be built and DTE will build a nearby industrial substation. MLive
