CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Detroit Street Filling Station — serving buffalo cauliflower wings with celery and vegan ranch — earned a PETA award and will receive a framed certificate ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 8, joining four national spots on the list. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Former UM President Santa Ono expressed admiration for Kent Syverud’s upcoming appointment as the next university president and praised his leadership at Syracuse University in an email on Feb. 5. Syverud will take office on July 1. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor teachers, who have been without a contract since Dec. 31, plan to cut unpaid after-school tasks as they seek competitive wages. School officials have started negotiations and aim to stabilize the district’s finances. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washtenaw County Judge Carol Kuhnke ordered remaining tenants of deteriorated Arbor One West apartments to leave by March 6 after water shutoffs made living conditions unsafe (only two occupants remain). Owners must board up access points and cut utilities to begin repairs. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor is replacing its aging pedestrian bridge over the Huron River with a new $5M structure that will extend the Border-to-Border Trail in the Barton Nature Area — the city will discuss project details and funding options at a Zoom meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12. MLive
