  • University of Michigan (UM) senior Brendan LaFrenier will run 200 miles from Lake St. Clair to Lake Michigan starting March 2 to raise $100,000 for homelessness. A six-student film team will document his stops at 10 local shelters as he aims to finish before sunset on March 4.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Green For Life plans to expand the Arbor Hills landfill at 10690 Six Mile Road in Salem Township, stirring debate between revenue supporters and Northville residents filing hundreds of odor complaints. County officials will review the plan as environmental groups (including The Conservancy Initiative) urge rejection of the expansion.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Since last August, calls for the 19-story Legacy and 13-story Verve high-rises have increased for Ann Arbor Fire Department, prompting building managers to adjust alarm settings while city officials study adding a dedicated high-rise team — an option estimated to cost $1.2 million each year to improve emergency response.  MLive
