COMMUNITY NEWS

  • YouTuber and cyclist Ryan Van Duzer will lead a free event at Destination Cyclery in Dexter on Saturday, April 11, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can sign up in advance online for a meet and greet, group ride and travel stories presentation.  MLive
  • 15-year-old Anna Tukin (from Saline) trains with her mom to climb Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak, after finishing her final exams in June; she has already scaled Africa’s and Australia’s highest summits and plans a group trip through Egypt, Russia, and Peru.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sheetz opened a new 6,139 sqft store at 2103 W. Michigan Ave in Ypsilanti Township on Tuesday, March 3. The store is open 24 hours, employs 37 staff, and hosted free drinks & raffles during its grand opening as part of a planned expansion in Michigan.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Thunder Haab Foundation is contesting a $1.5M donation agreement after Concordia downsized its Ann Arbor campus in 2024 and altered plans for a fitness center, claiming the donor’s intent was ignored. A judge announced Tuesday that a written decision would soon follow.  MLive
  • On Tuesday, March 3, Michigan hosted the Midwest Culinary Showdown at South Quad—chefs from six schools prepared a catfish and okra dish, and Michigan’s Justin Lucas won top honors and will advance to the national NACUFS final in New Orleans on July 16.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor Public Schools have paused new construction projects due to a 44.4% rise in material and labor costs; officials will reassess plans after the sinking fund renewal is set for the August ballot, while ongoing renovations at Slauson Middle School continue.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two virtual sessions will review new roundabout projects in Washtenaw County. The Dexter session (scheduled for 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 23 near a historic viaduct) and the second session (at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14 for a roundabout at Dixboro Road and Pontiac Trail) will provide project details.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Washtenaw County Health Department in Ypsilanti urged families meeting income guidelines and caring for a pregnant woman or child under five to check eligibility for WIC. The program offers food benefits, nutrition services (at local stores and farmers markets), and support that can save families over $5,000 through early childhood.  MLive
