EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A junior at Huron High is urging school officials to push back start times so teens can align their schedules with natural sleep patterns. The board has received over two dozen supportive comments while officials note ongoing logistics challenges with transportation and current scheduling. MLive
- ➤ The University of Michigan Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library will host veteran journalist Thomas DeFrank on Thursday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m. as he shares firsthand accounts from covering President Ford during the Bicentennial (the free event includes a dessert reception and livestream viewing option). - ➤ Decorated Olympian Michael Phelps is recommended for an honorary Doctor of Laws degree at UM spring commencement on Saturday, May 2 at Michigan Stadium, as the Board of Regents will review honorary recommendations (meeting on March 19 at 3:30 p.m. in University Hall). MLive
- ➤ The University of Michigan will propose spending $10M to update Palmer Commons at 100 Washtenaw Ave., adding classrooms, huddle rooms and a student lounge. - ➤ The University of Michigan Board of Regents will vote tomorrow, Mar. 19, on a proposal to lease nearly two acres near 1600 Washington Heights for 45 years to expand the Ronald McDonald House, which helps families stay close during hospitalizations+ the decision follows a long-term no-rent agreement. - ➤ Local health officials noted that with declining vaccination rates the county has seen two measles cases, one confirmed among unvaccinated and one suspected from close contact, with potential exposures in Ypsilanti, Ann Arbor + Canton.
