COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The University of Michigan warns that marijuana is banned on campus during Hash Bash at Central Campus Diag on Saturday, April 4; campus and local police will enforce the rule and violators risk citations (per federal law and university policy).  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Zingerman’s Cornman Farms near Dexter will close at the end of October after more than a decade of hosting weddings & farm-to-table events. The venue will honor all 2026 contracts and will release summer & fall events to let community members celebrate.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor PTO Council launched an online fundraiser on March 9 to support Title I elementary schools; it aims to raise $32,550 so each student receives an extra $10 in funding, with over $4,200 raised and a $30 minimum donation request + a push to close the equity gap.  MLive
  • Nominations for the annual Young Citizen Award remain open until Mar. 24 for high school students in Washtenaw County who serve their community—candidates can earn a $4,500 scholarship from the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation.  MLive
  • UM is purchasing a 124-acre parcel on Textile Road in Ypsilanti Township as an option for a high performance computational research facility with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory — officials will decide between this site and the Willow Run complex as planning continues.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ann Arbor will launch a pilot sustainable energy utility in the Bryant neighborhood after the City Council approved $2 million for battery + solar equipment on March 16. The city-run service will enroll 100 to 150 customers and expand citywide in 2027, offering local renewable energy and storage.  MLive

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Lodi Township's Board of Trustees narrowly approved Toll Brothers' plan to build 107 luxury single-family homes in Arbor Preserve on Wednesday, March 18 near Ann Arbor. Toll Brothers now must secure state permits with groundbreaking planned this construction season (pending approvals).  MLive
