CRIME NEWS

  • A Washtenaw County judge ruled on March 18 that evidence linking Buster Robbins to the alleged abduction, sexual assault, and murder of Beverly Wivell 36 years ago was insufficient to bind him over—he remains in custody without bond—and prosecutors plan to appeal the decision on April 8.  All About Ann Arbor

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brian Zalud, Grass Lake High School's athletic administrator, was named Region VI Athletic Director of the Year by the Michigan Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association on March 15, 2025 (he credited his win to a strong network of coaches, parents, and athletes in the district).  MLive
  • Updated site plans for the new Lakewood Elementary in west Ann Arbor show outdoor play areas, dining, nature plazas and parking. Officials said the conceptual plan from Midwestern Consulting and Stantec will evolve during design as the school district will break ground in 2026 — families shared their ideas at a meeting Tuesday night.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A class-action settlement has been approved to give $1 to drivers whose car tires were chalked when they received expired-meter tickets. City Council voted (10-0) on March 17 to settle the case brought by Sean Yannotti.  MLive

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Rappourt in Ann Arbor now offers Odd Brothers Craft Cider's Ecto Cider, a green drink that blends apples, tangerines, and citrus peels to create a crisp taste for spring. The cider is served on draft (2721 Plymouth Road) with operating hours (11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, noon to 9 p.m. Sunday).  MLive

  • Junior running back Justice Haynes, an Alabama transfer who joined Michigan a few months ago, impressed new coordinator Chip Lindsey during winter conditioning and will practice this spring — he aims to compete for a starting role this fall.  MLive
  • Michigan’s new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey held a press conference on Monday in Ann Arbor where he previewed spring practice and challenged receivers to step up as playmakers because last season’s passing game had low production. He said younger receivers and veterans like Kendrick Bell and Donaven McCulley will get more chances to run routes and win one-on-one plays — a change that he expects will streamline the offense.  MLive
