CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A murder charge against Nicholas Elka (38) was dismissed March 20 after further investigation found no evidence he intended to run over his wife with his truck on Sept. 21, though he remains charged with operating while intoxicated causing death and will face trial on April 1. MLive
- ➤ A 42-year-old Ann Arbor man pleaded no contest to assault less than murder and to a domestic violence charge for strangling a woman during an argument over money—he also pleaded no contest to two weapons charges, according to court records. MLive
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ This weekend in Ann Arbor the 51st Dance for Mother Earth Powwow will be held at Skyline High School on March 22 and 23 where Native dances and drum contests honor heritage. The Ann Arbor District Library will host a Mario Kart tournament from 1 to 4 p.m. on March 23 and the Ann Arbor City Club will run its annual flea market on March 22 and 23 offering a variety of antiques, collectibles and more at 1830 Washtenaw Ave. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Michigan School of Nursing will award scholarships to 140 undergraduate students over the next four years with a $2M grant from the Bedford Falls Foundation-DAF—creating the Bill and Joanne Conway EPIC Scholarship. The program will provide partial scholarships, stipends and academic support, Dean Patricia Hurn said. MLive
- ➤ On March 19th, state lawmakers heard that Michigan schools received over $2.27 billion in federal funds to support pre-kindergarten and K-12 programs for vulnerable students. They warned that looming federal spending cuts could soon reduce this critical aid. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City Council approved a $19M project — to upgrade streets, sidewalks and utilities — in Ann Arbor’s Pittsfield Village neighborhood, with construction set to begin in April and continue through November 2026. The upgrades will resurface nearly three miles of streets, add a bike corridor on Pittsfield Boulevard and install water and sewer improvements to reduce flooding and service interruptions. MLive
- ➤ Scio Township is asking local residents for input on plans to improve the busy Jackson Road corridor west of Ann Arbor — the online survey will remain open through April. MLive

- ➤ Brookdale Ann Arbor, located at 2190 Ann Arbor Saline Road, was ranked Michigan's top senior living facility by Seniorly and offers assisted living and memory care services. MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The Michigan women's basketball team, seeded 6, will face Iowa State, seeded 11, in a first-round NCAA Tournament game today at 11:30 a.m. ET in South Bend— Iowa State advanced after beating Princeton in a play-in game. MLive
