CULTURE NEWS

  • Hollywood icon Martin Sheen has been announced as a guest at Motor City Comic Con, which will be held at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi from May 16 to May 18. He will appear on Saturday and Sunday — joining a guest list that includes stars from The Office, Star Wars, Avengers and Goonies.  MLive
  • Today, Ann Arbor offers several events including the 63rd Ann Arbor Film Festival at Michigan Theater, a trivia contest at the Westgate District Library, and a book sale at Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds. Drag bingo is set for Saturday and an oddities bazaar runs on March 30—residents have a busy weekend to enjoy diverse local activities.  MLive
  • The Ann Arbor folk band Mustard’s Retreat marks 50 years with a show today at The Ark at 7:30 p.m. in Ann Arbor and another set for 3:00 p.m. on March 29 at The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Flint—this group, founded in 1975 by David Tamulevich, Libby Glover and Michael Hough, has played over 7,000 shows nationwide.  MLive

  • Ann Arbor officials are proposing changes to boost city hall’s power in planning and zoning—efforts that aim to speed up private development. They have already started building a new economic development office and saw the Legacy apartment high-rise begin construction on Washington Street.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Emergent Health Partners—an ambulance agency serving southeast Michigan—was reaccredited on Feb 24 by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services and will continue to provide emergency care in the region.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan defensive ends TJ Guy and Derrick Moore will return this fall to bolster the Wolverine pass rush as Guy impressed last season with 5 1/2 sacks and Moore worked to improve his first step—both are set to help the team tackle a tough schedule. Coach Sherrone Moore looks to the duo and their emerging backups to fill gaps left by departing starters and build a stronger defense.  MLive
  • Jackson Cantwell, a five-star offensive lineman from Nixa, Missouri, visited Ann Arbor last week during spring practices to learn about Michigan's program culture and meet head coach Sherrone Moore and offensive line coach Grant Newsome—he also posed with top recruit Bryce Underwood. Michigan plans to invite him for an official visit in June—his trip reflects the program's push to strengthen its offensive line.  MLive
