BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pinball Pete’s reopened on March 27 (at 500 E. Liberty St.) after relocating from South U and refreshing its space; longtime fans, college students, and families enjoyed arcade games and neon signage that bring back nostalgic charm.  MLive
  • Michigan-based Carhartt released its Rooted in Work series of eight women’s outdoor pieces today—priced from $27.99 to $99.99—and some items are on sale as a Mother’s Day gift option in Ann Arbor.  MLive
  • Three Ann Arbor startups will compete at the PitchMI Championship on Apr. 7 in Lansing for a $1 million investment as part of 517 Entrepreneur and Innovation Week conducted by Michigan State University; the competition runs from noon to 3:30 p.m. and is expected to draw over 400 attendees.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor-trained violinist Kiana Howley will debut her new band Howley at The Ark on May 9. The performance marks her hometown return after international tours with groups like Gaelic Storm and Barrage (featuring musicians from We Banjo 3).  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washtenaw Community College invites residents to explore college life during Free College Week, April 13-18, by offering free virtual classes and on-campus activities such as AI workshops, dance classes and a Cars with Coffee event. The in-person events on Saturday take place at 4800 E- Huron River Drive.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • UM will help fund a $15 million project to upgrade 12 railroad crossings near new dorms so trains can bypass sounding horns — the city is working with the Federal Railroad Administration and MDOT to create a quiet zone.  MLive
  • University of Michigan invested over $32 million in fiscal year 2025 (including $8 million for capital projects) in city upgrades such as widening the East Medical Center Drive bridge, updating sewer capacity, and adding streetlights on Packard Street. The university will continue partnering with city officials on transit and bikeway projects to support future community growth.  MLive

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Saline’s downtown will get a $33 million facelift when construction begins in 2026 on a historic building that will become mixed-use housing with four apartments, a speakeasy bar and a public space for live events. The project will finish in 2027 to boost activity and support local businesses.  MLive
  • A custom home is rising at 305 Snyder Ave near Michigan Stadium for football game day gatherings — built by Sandlewood Properties, it will be three stories and 3,215 sqft when complete.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan transfer John Henry Daley has resumed jogging after a season-ending Achilles injury and will fully return by June 1 + coach Whitt confirmed he will join Michigan football practices in Ann Arbor to bolster the team roster.  MLive
  • Michigan football announced that transfer quarterback Colin Hurley is no longer with the team as of Tuesday — spokesman Dave Ablauf did not give a reason. The team now has four quarterbacks — starter Bryce Underwood, sophomore Chase Herbstreit, early enrollee Tommy Carr, and Brady Smigiel — for spring practice.  MLive
  • JJ Buchanan, a Michigan transfer receiver from Utah, has quickly adjusted to the Wolverines' familiar offensive system during fall camp and made key big catches (using the same hand signals he knew from high school). Coach Beck said his rapid adaptation could boost Michigan's passing game this season.  MLive
  • Michigan's Wolverines showed in-sync play (with excellent ball movement and depth) with a 21-0 run in their Mar. 28 win over Tennessee, clinching a Final Four berth. They will face Arizona in Indianapolis as they aim to build on their strong performance.  MLive
