- ➤ The Vanguard Hotel, a luxury 188 room hotel near the University of Michigan, will open on Tuesday, May 13 in a nine story building at 201 Glen Avenue between Catherine and Ann streets. The new hotel has been planned for over a decade and will offer event spaces for meetings and functions. MLive

- ➤ Kimani Angelo Hamilton, 30, pleaded guilty to slicing a man's neck in downtown Ann Arbor and was sentenced to one year in jail + two years probation, with Judge Carol Kuhnke giving him credit for 283 days already served. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Farmer Jacob Haas helped save 216 acres near Ann Arbor by donating a conservation easement to Legacy Land Conservancy—this easement permanently protects his farm, woods and wetlands from future development. The protected land is located on the north side of Scio Church Road in Lima Township. MLive
- ➤ The city plans to launch its sustainable energy utility soon — allowing homeowners and others to receive solar panels and backup battery storage with no upfront cost. Sustainability director Missy Stults said the program will reduce installation fees and make switching to solar easier. MLive
