CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Ann Arbor Summer Festival will offer Movies by Moonlight with free outdoor films from June 15 to 29 at Ingalls Mall during Top of the Park—the full festival lineup will be announced on May 1. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ U.S. News and World Report released the 2025 rankings on April 8th showing that the University of Michigan Ann Arbor engineering school fell to No. 11 after dropping two spots from last year. It remains the only Michigan institution in the top 50 and leads key areas such as nuclear and industrial engineering — while other schools ranked lower. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Ann Arbor City Council unanimously approved conservation easements on April 7 to protect about 260 acres of farmland near Ann Arbor through the greenbelt program in partnership with others. The easements cover lands in Northfield, Scio and Ann Arbor townships and will help preserve local agriculture. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dearborn-based lawyer Amir Makled, who represents a University of Michigan protester, was detained at Detroit Metro Airport on April 6 after returning from the Dominican Republic and questioned by federal agents who asked to inspect his phone—he said he felt targeted—and officials said the search was routine. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor City Council voted unanimously Monday, April 7 to sell air rights over an alley off Church Street to Chicago-based developer Core Spaces for $1.2M—funds that will enable a new apartment high-rise near the University of Michigan campus—marking a key step in the city's high-rise development plans. - ➤ Developers sued Pittsfield Township after its board denied rezoning of agricultural land for an 88-unit duplex project near Ann Arbor—arguing that preserving the land is illogical. The case is in the Michigan Court of Appeals and the developers plan to continue fighting their proposal. MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ At Michigan football practice, injured Davis Warren and Mikey Keene have kept their team from a full quarterback roster, leaving freshman Bryce Underwood and redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis to take extra reps. Coaches will decide in preseason camp if Underwood earns the starting spot. MLive
- ➤ Michigan's cornerback Jyaire Hill lost his jersey and starting spot last fall after struggling with double moves, and he now has his jersey back this spring as coaches add a new slot role — his progress on coverage is being closely watched.
