CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Axel Sanchez Saldivar, a 19-year-old man, was charged with seven felonies after he allegedly fled police and caused a car dealership crash by driving while intoxicated (accused also of reckless driving and fleeing a police officer) that killed a teen and injured another on April 3. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Thursday, over 200 University of Michigan students and faculty met at the Diag to protest rollbacks of DEI programs and visa revocations affecting nearly two dozen international students and graduates. Rally organizers such as the Black Student Union said the changes made campus feel less safe and vowed to keep speaking out. WXYZ
- ➤ U.S. News released its ranking on April 8 showing that the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor held the No. 8 spot for master’s nursing programs while several other Michigan schools placed in the top 100. Wayne State, Michigan State, Oakland, University of Detroit Mercy and Madonna University improved their positions and the ranking was based on 15 factors—such as research activity and faculty resources. - ➤ Chicago-based Invenergy is planning to build large solar facilities in Saline and Bridgewater townships as local officials in Washtenaw County review new regulations—state laws may help overcome local opposition to the project. MLive

- ➤ Ann Arbor will begin a $3 million water main replacement project at Westgate Shopping Center in May to address recurring water main breaks—City Engineer Nick Hutchinson said the work will last until September. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor officials issued a stop-work order on transportation safety and bike lane projects after federal holdups blocked improvements—covering up to 12 miles of critical corridors—during Mayor Taylor's meeting on April 7. MLive
