  • Destination Ann Arbor and the Ann Arbor Sports Commission earned the Governor’s Award for Innovative Tourism Collaboration on April 8 at the Pure Michigan Governor’s Conference on Tourism at Grand Traverse Resort for developing the Olympic-caliber rowing course at Ford Lake that hosted a championship with $7.2 million economic impact.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A Midwest grocer will open its first Michigan store at 910 Briarwood Circle near Briarwood Mall on Wednesday, April 15 at 10 a.m. The store will feature local partnerships, a brew bar, coffee bar, Farmhouse restaurant, and family-friendly dining options — offering a new shopping experience.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • University of Michigan launches its Faculty Arts Ambassador Program, sending two professors to lead creative workshops in Northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula this summer — Jonathan Holland will run a two-day writing workshop at correctional facilities while Catie Newell hosts artist talks in Petoskey and Traverse City.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Michigan College of Pharmacy received a $3.5M gift from Beverly Vahlteich DeLaney on April 2 to fund a new research floor in its Huron Street building - honoring her parents and boosting medicinal chemistry studies. The donation strengthens research funds and supports student learning.  MLive

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The updated plans for the eight-story SouthTown development at 1601 S. State St include 289 apartments, a 41-space parking garage, and sustainable energy systems. The city's Planning Commission approved the changes on Tuesday, Apr. 7 and construction may begin by the end of summer.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor’s old Mail Shoppe at 317 S. Division St. was remodeled and expanded into four apartment townhouses connected by a one-story addition (approved by the Historic District Commission). DHGIT Properties led the project, preserving early 1900s historic details.  MLive

  • Excited fans celebrated Michigan's NCAA title win (its first national title since 1989) on Monday, April 6 as downtown Ann Arbor lit nearly 50 street fires and formed mosh pits outside South U.  MLive
