ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Ann Arbor fire crews responded at 5:00 a.m. April 5 at Arbor Landings Apartments at 545 Landings Blvd where a fire destroyed two units and damaged six others—officials said the blaze was likely sparked by a furnace failure or by items stored too close, and details remain unclear.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • Stefan McCoy, father of Donrell Canda, said he feels justice is not complete because his son is gone even though the man convicted of killing him will spend life in prison—he wishes the court did more.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A new five-story teaching and research facility for the University of Michigan’s College of Pharmacy entered final stages of construction on April 4 along Huron Street at Glen Avenue where historic houses once stood+ its modern design now gives way to advanced labs and classrooms. The building will soon support pharmacy education and research+ offering updated spaces for students and faculty.  MLive
  • At Mitchell Elementary, Principal Samantha Cucu said students were stoked when plans for a new school building were announced—construction will begin this year and finish in 2027.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ann Arbor drivers experienced road closures yesterday on State Street and North University Avenue for Music Matters SpringFest and will face more closures on April 13 for the University of Michigan Big House 5K and on April 16 for the Forever Go Blue Bash. Utility work closing South Fifth Avenue until mid-June and various construction projects across Washtenaw County will also affect travel this week.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor officials are debating whether to invest $300M in the Arbor South project — a 20-acre mixed-use site on State Street and Eisenhower Parkway — which may create a second downtown, marking the largest public investment in a private project in the city's history.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan forward T.J. Hughes announced he will return for his senior season after turning down pro offers, and he led his team with 15 goals, 38 points — including 9 power-play goals as the Wolverines missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019.  MLive
  • Michigan has been prioritizing spring campus visits at Schembechler Hall to showcase its facilities and practice intensity for recruits, though it secured only three verbal pledges including four-star offensive lineman Bear McWhorter on Feb 28th. The program plans to host more visits later this season — hoping to boost recruiting commitments before the early signing period.  MLive
