- ➤ Ann Arbor was recognized as one of the top-100 best places to live by Livability.com, ranking in the upper-5% of communities analyzed nationwide on April 15. The ranking considered education, health, and amenities using nearly 100 data points. MLive
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Yost Ice Arena sustained roof damage from a high-wind storm that swept through Ann Arbor early Wednesday morning, scattering metal pieces & debris into neighboring yards. The University of Michigan is assessing the damage after power outages affected thousands in Washtenaw County. MLive
- ➤ Overnight rains and strong winds on April 15 caused the wall of the Veterans Memorial Park Ice Arena to collapse — emergency crews handled more than 75 calls while Mayor Taylor surveyed damage — and the National Weather Service will determine if a tornado struck. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kent Syverud will not become the next UM president after his brain cancer diagnosis. The board said — it plans to restart the search while he continues treatment and remains a law professor and advisor. MLive
- ➤ Former Fab Five member Jalen Rose will speak at the University of Michigan commencement on Saturday, May 2 at Michigan Stadium, where he will receive a Doctor of Humane Letters and highlight his legacy while calling for the return of the Fab Five banners and praising the recent championship team. - ➤ Former Michigan Wolverine Will Tschetter will play for the Warwick Senators in Perth next season—his signing was announced yesterday as he prepares to bring championship experience to the team. He featured as a key reserve during the national title run earlier this month. MLive
