CRIME NEWS

  • Two suspects charged in the murder of a foster family were bound over for trial today in Northfield Township—authorities said the charges include burglary, kidnapping, and robbery linked to a New Year's Day break-in.  WXYZ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A roughly $242M bond proposal for Dexter Community Schools will be on the ballot May 6 to finance upgrades for school buildings, learning spaces, and athletic facilities—without raising taxes as the millage rate remains at or below 8.5 mills. The district will host community forums on April 22 at 7 p.m. and April 24 at 1 p.m. to explain the proposal.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials announced Tuesday that over 70% of the electricity powering Ann Arbor city operations came from renewable energy sources — a result of enrolling 67 sites in the Michigan Electric Customer Choice Program — which supports the city's move toward cleaner energy.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor planning commissioners postponed site plan talks for the Arbor South mixed-use development off State Street and Eisenhower Parkway on Tuesday— the plan calls for 14 new buildings on 23.5 acres with over 1,000 residential units, a 150-room hotel, and 93,500 square feet of commercial space.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ann Arbor’s Michigan Softball Academy will hold its 16th annual fundraiser on April 24 at Alumni Field at Carol Hutchins Stadium to raise funds for breast cancer research and support the American Cancer Society. The University of Michigan women’s softball team sponsors the event, which will feature a home run derby and end with a social mixer at Jack Roth Stadium Club — building on more than $2 million raised since 2010.  ClickOnDetroit.com
