COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A segment of the Border to Border Trail in Dexter will close from Monday, Apr. 20 until mid-June — crews will replace deteriorated boardwalk boards to keep the trail safe, officials said. Updates will be posted by local parks authorities as work continues.  MLive
  • The renovated Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center at Waterloo State Recreation Area reopens today at 17030 Bush Road after a yearlong upgrade financed by state and federal funds. A ribbon-cutting is set for 1 p.m. and live animal programs will continue this weekend.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor Summer Festival will host its annual fundraiser on Friday, May 15 at HOMES Campus where adults can enjoy live music, artisanal drinks, hors d'oeuvres and dessert. It also announced its Annex Series lineup with interactive workshops, comedy and art events scheduled from June 12 to June 28 near Ingalls Mall.  MLive
  • Ann Arbor’s Zingerman’s joined forces with cookbook author Anna Hezel for its Tastemaker Series. The Anna Hezel x Zingerman’s Collaboration Box launches April 24 with eight specialty items for easy spring hosting and Mother’s Day gifting (Party Tricks recipes included).  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Nine tornadoes touched down in Michigan last week as severe storms moved through the state, including an EF-1 tornado in Ann Arbor on (Thursday, Apr. 16) that knocked down trees and damaged roofs. No injuries were reported, according to the National Weather Service.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Blake Transit Center will close for several months starting May 3 because construction is upgrading Fourth Avenue, and bus stops will temporarily move to Fifth Avenue and Washington Street. The renovation includes improved sidewalks and transit shelters, and a 20-story affordable housing tower will break ground this summer.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Arbor Hospice in Ann Arbor reported that 775 volunteers provided more than 37,000 hours of care to 1,100 patients in 2025 (equal to 18 full-time staff members) and is seeking new helpers in the greater Ann Arbor area as National Volunteer Week approaches April 19 to April 25.  MLive

  • Fresh from winning the NCAA championship — the first since 1989 — Michigan Wolverines star Yaxel Lendeborg is preparing for the NBA draft on June 23. He shared excitement and nerves on ESPN and recalled signing autographs during a celebratory parade.  All About Ann Arbor
  • Henry Daley is on track for a full return by June 1 — easing the fight for a starting spot between veteran Cameron Brandt and junior Dominic Nichols as spring practices boost competition on the defensive line for the fall season.  MLive

  • Michigan won its first ITA National Wheelchair Tennis Championship on Sunday, April 12 in Orlando when it defeated defending champion Alabama. The Wolverines secured the title with a pool play sweep and a key doubles win while head coach Chris Kelley was named ITA National Coach of the Year.  MLive
