CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum will hold an adults-only trivia event on outer space on Friday, Apr. 24 as part of its Discovery After Dark series, running from 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 220 E. Ann St. & serving drinks and light snacks while advising attendees to check parking due to nearby construction.  MLive
  • The Lyrid meteor shower peaks today with fast and bright fireballs lighting up the sky after 10 p.m. near Vega in the Lyra constellation and will continue into tomorrow night if skies remain clear.  MLive
  • Michigan contestant Jamie Ding (a Seton Hall law student) won 26 consecutive Jeopardy games on April 20, earning $732,000 and is now in the conversation to break Ken Jennings' record.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Michigan gas prices dropped 15 cents per gallon on Monday, Apr. 20, with Ann Arbor at $3.87 per gallon (experts warn market risks could push prices higher soon).  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eastern Michigan University professor Ashley Johnson Bavery will teach American studies for the 2026-2027 academic year in Hungary through a Fulbright award. She will lecture at the University of Debrecen & share her migration research to build cross-cultural ties.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council approved selling air rights above Library Lane for $1 to fund a new downtown library while the current library remains open until 2029 (the deal allows a future building up to 260 feet tall). The library board will invite developer proposals in the fall.  MLive

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Crews are cleaning the historic brewery building at 416 Fourth St. after an EF1 tornado on April 15 tore off parts of its roof and bricks. A pending sale is delayed until insurance and repairs are complete, but buyers remain eager to preserve the property’s history.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan football wrapped up spring practice amid injuries and progress. Coach Kyle Whittingham outlined starting players and backup roles for fall camp — transfers and injured players are set to return later.  MLive
  • Michigan gymnast Fred Richard won his second consecutive national title Sunday in Champaign, Illinois by scoring 83.598 (his season-high) as the Michigan team finished third behind Stanford and Oklahoma.  MLive
