ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ DTE Energy will file a $474M electric rate request on Tuesday, April 28, and if its Saline Township data center is online by the end of 2027 with required approvals, it will pause further rate increases until at least 2028 + the measure gives customers two years without a rate hike. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor educators, parents, and students gathered at a school board meeting April 22 to demand fair pay and a new contract after teachers worked without one since the start of 2026 — the union's online vote to ratify the tentative deal began today and will run until 5 p.m. Monday. MLive
- ➤ After a brain cancer diagnosis, UM president-elect Kent Syverud will join the law school faculty while keeping his $2 million base salary along with a housing stipend. UM regents will restart the search for a new president, with his appointment effective May 11. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Michigan DNR will conduct prescribed burns across 521 acres in Washtenaw, Huron, Ogemaw, and Charlevoix counties in Lower Peninsula to boost land health. Burns start at 10 a.m. in Huron County and 11 a.m. elsewhere and may be canceled if weather is unsuitable. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Road officials in Dexter will close Island Lake Road from Dexter-Chelsea to Dexter-Pinckney on Monday, May 4, with work expected to continue until early or mid-September. The project includes building a new roundabout, repaving, installing crosswalks and an over-height vehicle warning system to ease congestion near the historic viaduct. MLive
