  • Chef Li Zhou opened Tabe in March at 209 S. Main St. in downtown Ann Arbor, replacing the former Jim Brady’s location; the restaurant serves Asian fusion dishes like braised beef short ribs with wasabi mashed potatoes and pan-fried whole branzino—offering a casual first floor and an elevated Omakase second floor experience.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, April 22, police discovered the body of a 50-year-old man in Mary Beth Doyle Park — located south of Packard Street between Stone School and Platt roads — with no signs of trauma, and the medical examiner will determine his cause of death.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mateo Hayes, a Ypsilanti resident and recovering addict, has been running in a rooster suit to raise funds for addiction recovery programs at Dawn Farm after federal grant cuts reduced its support. He pledged to run one mile for every 20 dollars donated and has completed 83 miles so far—planning to run another 60 to help cover the lost funds.  MLive
  • The FDA recalled nearly 174,000 bottles of S. Martinelli apple juice (from packs of four 10-ounce bottles) across 28 states due to possible patulin contamination that may cause nausea and vomiting. Michigan residents are advised to check their refrigerators (look for the best by date of Dec. 5) and remove the recalled product.  MLive

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • New York Pizza Depot at 605 E. William St. draws long lines of University of Michigan students and downtown workers waiting for $2 slices on sunny days — its late hours make it a popular spot for a quick meal. It is open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 a.m. and Saturday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan running back Donovan Edwards signed with the New York Jets as an undrafted free agent after a four-year college career that had high points and uneven production (he recorded a 4.44-second 40-yard dash) and totaled 2,251 rushing yards (including key spurts in big plays).  MLive
  • Myles Hinton, Michigan’s top offensive lineman from 2024, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 6th round at pick No. 191 in the 2025 NFL Draft—he played at both Stanford and Michigan and will join former teammate Trevor Keegan in Philadelphia.  MLive
  • After only seven Michigan players were drafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, eight others signed as undrafted free agents last night, with Michigan Football confirming deals by William Wagner (Cincinnati Bengals) and Josh Priebe (Miami Dolphins). Defensive back Makari Paige joined the New York Giants and running back Donovan Edwards signed with the New York Jets while other players remain available for NFL deals.  MLive
  • Michigan's football team welcomed its second commitment for the 2026 class when three star edge rusher Tariq Boney from Washington D.C. St John's announced his decision on Saturday. At 6 ft 2 in and 230 pounds, Boney chose Michigan over Cincinnati + Tulane and West Virginia after an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor.  MLive
