EDUCATION NEWS

  • John Swales, a respected University of Michigan professor, died on March 18 at age 86 from kidney cancer after more than 60 years of teaching and research. A memorial service is set for 2 p.m. Friday, May 30 at Weiser Hall + donations to the Legacy Land Conservancy are welcome.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority recommended that City Council approve a major boundary expansion to capture more tax revenue for downtown improvements along North Main, Division, South Main, Packard and south of South University—a move that aims to fund projects like streetscape upgrades, parks and affordable housing after 18 months of planning and comparisons to Grand Rapids’ model. The proposal will be reviewed by council in the coming months to determine funding and future infrastructure investments.  MLive
