  • Ann Arbor residents can exchange gently used furniture and electronics today (1 to 3 p.m.) at the Phi Delta Theta chapter house, 1437 Washtenaw Ave to help reduce waste. Unclaimed items will be donated to the Salvation Army.  MLive

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • UM senior Kevin Rutz was found dead in an off-campus Ann Arbor residence on Thursday, Apr. 23; police reported no signs of trauma and ruled out foul play as the medical examiner works to determine his cause of death.  MLive

  • Developers working on Michigan’s first hyperscale data center in Saline Township are running ads since January as they secure $16B financing for Oracle + OpenAI while facing local opposition over rezoning issues. The campaign promises job creation, local workforce training, and environmental safeguards with preserved farmland and wetlands.  MLive
  • Two local athletes merged their companies nearly three years ago to form The Ethos Team at 4900 Jackson Road, where they now handle digital marketing, web design, and AI integration for clients of all sizes.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sonic Lunch will reveal the summer concert series openers at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29 — headliners will be announced on May 6 on 107one’s Facebook page; the series has been a free outdoor tradition since 2007.  MLive
  • University of Michigan Ph.D. student Allyson Pérez will lead a talk on Cuban restaurant history tomorrow from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the downtown Ann Arbor District Library, where in-person attendees can sample Cuban food after a Q&A.  MLive
  • Ballet Chelsea opened registration for its expanded summer dance programs that include performance intensives for advanced dancers and themed camps for preschoolers and young dancers, with Bluey Camp on June 22-26 plus Circus and K-pop camps in July near Ann Arbor.  MLive

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA data showed that on April 20, Michigan drivers paid an average of $4.04 per gallon, with Ontonagon at $4.28 and Newaygo at $3.90 — experts warn prices will rise further amid renewed tensions. The report noted that diesel prices are also increasing in coming days.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor Fire Department warned that hazardous flows and elevated debris on the Huron River create dangerous conditions near Broadway bridges. The department advises residents and visitors to avoid the river and use proper life jackets as conditions continue to change.  MLive

  • Former Michigan diving coach Dick Kimball died Sunday at 91; he won four NCAA championships and seven Big Ten titles, coached athletes in six Olympic Games (five with the United States, one with Uruguay), and left an enduring mark on Ann Arbor's sports legacy.  MLive
  • Michigan football coach Kyle Whittingham laid the foundation during the spring game on Saturday, April 18 at Michigan Stadium (Ann Arbor) as quarterback Bryce Underwood and teammates work to build a stronger offense and defense for summer conditioning.  MLive
