CULTURE NEWS

  • Local musicians will perform on porches, lawns and driveways in Ann Arbor’s Water Hill neighborhood tomorrow during May Music Fest + an all-day event with music, drinks and food trucks will be held at Ann Arbor Distilling Co. from noon to 6 p.m. to celebrate SnowBuddy’s 11th anniversary.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ann Arbor Community High School hosted its 2025 prom on May 2nd at the Washtenaw Golf Club. The event saw 215 students celebrate with a Cosmic Fever theme + enjoy a photo area, desserts, and outdoor dancing under warm skies.  MLive
  • Seven former University of Michigan students and employees claim they were fired for joining pro-Palestine protests, and they filed a federal lawsuit on May 1 (by the Sugar Law Center and American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee) alleging the university violated their free speech and due process rights. The lawsuit says the terminations followed protests calling for divestment from Israel and demonstrations against the Israel-Hamas war.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ann Arbor drivers face multiple road closures this weekend as crews work on projects such as the Miller Avenue Rehabilitation project and State Street improvements—closures include Miller and Newport roads, Jackson Avenue, and Church Street among others. Lane restrictions and full closures will continue into July and beyond, so commuters should expect delays.  MLive

  • Michigan edge rusher Kechaun Bennett entered the transfer portal last month and has committed to play for UCLA for the 2025 season—he spent four years at Michigan with limited playing time and retains one season of eligibility. UCLA and Michigan are not scheduled to meet next season.  MLive
