- ➤ Harvest Market opened near Briarwood Mall on April 15, drawing a crowd with its low prices and varied offerings such as an in-house restaurant, coffee bar, and live weekend entertainment. Shoppers praised its quality local produce and diverse food options. MLive
- ➤ Molly's Cupcakes (a downtown favorite) closed on April 18 at 617 East Liberty St. The specialty bakery was known for its filled cupcakes and had been popular with students and residents before its doors shut amid neighborhood changes. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Retiring Pioneer High School teacher Jeff Kass will be honored with a poetry event on Friday, May 22 at 7 p.m. at Schreiber Auditorium, featuring National Book Award winner Patricia Smith and other noted poets — tickets cost $5 for students and $15 for others, with proceeds benefiting local literary programs. - ➤ The University of Michigan Board of Regents re-engaged its search for a new president after Kent Syverud withdrew due to health issues, and it will work with Spencer Stuart and the same search committee from prior listening sessions to find a qualified leader. MLive

- ➤ Several University of Michigan physicists won a $3M Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for their work measuring the muon g–2 with record precision. - ➤ Multiple construction projects affecting major streets began May 4 near the University and will run through late 2026.
