COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Southside Business Improvement Zone and the City will begin work this fall to update the State Street median with improved landscaping and removal of old asphalt in an effort to revitalize a key commercial corridor. The phased project aims to boost the area's appeal and ensure long-term maintenance.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ann Arbor’s Sonic Lunch series revealed its headliner lineup for free summer concerts starting June 4 with national stars and local favorites like Grace Potter on June 18 and Mavis Staples on Aug. 27. The shows (11:30 a.m.) are scheduled at Liberty Plaza (310 S. Division St.).  MLive
  • The Salem Area Historical Society will celebrate America 250 with a free event at the Jarvis Stone School Historic District on June 27 at 3 p.m. Visitors will view historical exhibits (including American Founding Documents), live music, colonial character portrayals and food trucks at the celebration.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow endorsed Congresswoman Haley Stevens on Tuesday as the Senate primary race heats up, saying Stevens is best equipped to defeat Mike Rogers in November. Stevens, who competes with two other candidates, said she is honored to have Stabenow’s support.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • University of Michigan Health hospitals in Ann Arbor and UM Health-West earned A grades in the spring 2026 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade rankings, while the Lansing hospital received a B; officials said the results reflect ongoing efforts to ensure quality care — a sign of their commitment to patient safety.  MLive
  • Assisted Living Locators opened in Ann Arbor to help families find senior living and care options. The new center, run by four local professionals, offers free guidance through personalized assessments and tours and will soon partner with community providers to support care decisions.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan softball advanced after a 9-0 win over Ohio State in College Park on Wednesday + they will face Nebraska at 1:30 p.m. today to boost their NCAA Tournament chances.  MLive
  • Michigan softball and baseball teams were on the NCAA Tournament bubble as they needed wins to secure postseason spots; the softball team played its first Big Ten Tournament game (Wednesday) while the baseball squad continued a regular-season schedule, and women's tennis advanced to the Sweet 16.  MLive
  • Ali Mann, a Chelsea graduate who led the Bulldogs to a 14-8 record as interim head coach during the 2025-26 season, is promoted to head girls basketball coach at Chelsea. The announcement was made Wednesday, highlighting her long history with the program.  MLive
