- ➤ Ypsilanti leaders backed Low Mow May on May 6 so residents can delay mowing their lawns to support pollinators, although one resident argued the plan is greenwashing. Council member Desiraé Simmons noted that the resolution offers temporary relief from ordinance enforcement—buying residents about a week—and she urged more holistic, year-round methods. MLive
- ➤ Jaydan Lightfoot, a young mother and local entrepreneur, said she struggles to cover living costs in Ann Arbor while earning $12.48 an hour and relying on the $528 monthly boost from the guaranteed income program—she will host a young mothers’ event at New Hope Baptist Church today as panelists warned that private philanthropy may be needed to sustain the two-year pilot beyond December. The program, using federal stimulus funds and managed by the University of Michigan’s Poverty Solutions team, is part of a study to see if extra cash helps low-income residents manage rising expenses.
