- ➤ Five high school students were named Young Citizens of the Year for 2026 for their service in fighting hunger, boosting literacy, and supporting youth programs in Washtenaw County (each won a $4,500 scholarship). The award program started in 1998 by The Ann Arbor News honored nominees for community impact. MLive
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A former McDonald's at 337 Maynard St. that opened in 1975 and closed in 1995 is remembered for its stained-glass window and lively local debate; the building now hosts a hair salon, beauty store and entrance to Nickels Arcade. Owners noted the window measured 5.5 ft wide (a local landmark). MLive

- ➤ Ann Arbor Pioneer High School held a 'Tangled' themed prom on Friday, May 8 at Michigan Stadium + about 200 students celebrated a memorable evening of school spirit. MLive

- ➤ Jayce Brewer, a four-star edge rusher from Indianapolis Franklin Central, committed to Michigan’s football team on Saturday, making him the seventh verbal pledge for the 2027 class. Brewer visited Ann Arbor twice this spring and will return for an official visit on June 19. MLive
