ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Ann Arbor firefighters rescued two workers on May 12 when a lift bucket near the ninth floor at a high-rise construction site at 721 S. Forest Ave failed — crews used both a ladder truck and an inside crew to remove window trim and complete the rescue, and neither worker was injured.  MLive
  • A 26-year-old man from Whitmore Lake died when his car collided head-on with a tractor-trailer on May 12 after he drove the wrong way on eastbound M-14 near Vorhies Road in Superior Township—police said drugs and alcohol may have contributed, and crews cleaned up a 100-gallon diesel spill.  MLive

BUSINESS NEWS

  • With warmer weather coming, parents in Ann Arbor see their children outgrow summer clothes and shop at Once Upon a Child to save money on new outfits. Owner Marcie Van Black said the store sells gently used items—shirts for $2.50 to $5.50 and pants and shorts for $3.50 to $6.50—to help families refresh wardrobes and earn cash when clearing out closets.  ClickOnDetroit.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Michigan Theater in downtown Ann Arbor is hosting a preview screening of the comedy Friendship today at 7:30 p.m., featuring Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson ahead of the Cinetopia Film Festival, which runs May 15—18. The festival will show over two dozen films at the Michigan and State Theatres downtown to offer both international and local works.  MLive
  • Today, the University of Michigan announced plans to renovate two historic Ann Arbor houses by moving the Raoul Wallenberg house next to the Arthur Miller house; the board of regents will vote on the $8 million project tomorrow + which will add a new 845 square foot addition with a shared elevator + and complete renovations by fall.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Superintendent Christopher Timmis of Dexter Community Schools announced in a message on Monday that he will retire at the end of February 2026 (serving since 2013). The board will soon request input from parents, students, and staff to help choose his replacement.  MLive
  • High school students in Washtenaw will have new career paths in drone aviation, business, and construction when the Washtenaw Intermediate School District pilots expanded CTE programs next fall using a $5M state grant. The grant will fund instructors and coordinators—helping the district boost its more than 70 programs to meet growing industry demand.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A University of Michigan regent recused herself from talks with Blue Cross Blue Shield due to questions about her business ties—she said she wanted to avoid any distractions from the university’s work. Critics called the move politically motivated—while other regents continue discussions on new reimbursement rates.  MLive
