- ➤ Washtenaw Community College is hosting its fifth annual Vet Fest on Saturday, Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. near the main campus entrance off East Huron River Drive. The event offers free food, entertainment, and community resources for veterans and military families (pre-registration required). MLive
- ➤ Saline Area Senior Center at 7190 N Maple Rd now features nearly double its space and new facilities—including a gym and expanded lobby—after a $3M renovation funded by a bond project and county millage; the center offers memberships at $98 annually or $12 monthly for people aged 45 and older. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Washtenaw Community College will award about 2,600 associate degrees and certificates at a commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16 at Eastern Michigan University’s George Gervin GameAbove Center in Ypsilanti. President Rose B. Bellanca will present the awards during the school’s 60th anniversary celebrations. MLive
- ➤ Seventy high school seniors were named National Merit Scholars after being chosen among 15,000 finalists for a 2,500-dollar award. The winners come from 40+ schools + mainly from Michigan's southern Lower Peninsula, according to an announcement made Wednesday, May 13. MLive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Brio Living Services — a faith-based nonprofit serving older adults since 1906 — was named one of Senior Care’s Best Places to Work on May 13 according to a press release. The organization employs 1,500 team members and serves over 8,000 seniors across 23 locations in 22 counties. MLive
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Michigan football secured four-star receiver Quentin Burrell from Chicago Mount Carmel on Wednesday. The recruit, ranked 83 overall, plans his official visit on June 19 plus his family already has ties to the program. MLive
- ➤ The Wolverine Confidential podcast highlights Michigan football as new head coach Kyle Whittingham will lead the team into a challenging fall schedule including road trips to Oregon and matchups (against Ohio State and others).
