CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The University of Michigan Board of Regents will vote on May 21 to authorize fireworks for Morgan Wallen’s concerts, set for July 24-25 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. Roughly 150,000 people are expected as pyrotechnics enhance the stage show. MLive
- ➤ On Monday, May 18, at Knight’s Steakhouse Downtown (600 E. Liberty St.), the Ann Arbor Art Fair unveiled new posters for three nonprofit fairs featuring a pink cactus, Zingerman’s Delicatessen art, and geese-themed art. The mid-July event will showcase nearly 1,000 artists across 30 city blocks. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor Skyline held its 2026 prom at Michigan Stadium on Friday, May 15 - hundreds of students took photos under the lights before dancing at the Jack Roth Stadium Club. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ University of Michigan regents will vote Thursday, May 21 on a $210M upgrade of Lorch Hall at 611 Tappan Ave — the project expands the building and retrofits energy systems, with construction set to finish in winter 2030. MLive
- ➤ The University of Michigan will build a new $29M men’s gymnastics training center next to the Bahna Wrestling Center. The board will vote on Thursday, May 21 to start design and site work (which will remove about 70 parking spaces) as the old facility is demolished. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor Huron held their 2026 prom at Michigan Stadium on Saturday, May 16, 2026, where 430 students celebrated a 'Down on the Bayou' theme and crowned Aidan Burmann as prom king and Eva Fazekas as prom queen. MLive
- ➤ On May 14, the University of Michigan earned a gold sustainability rating for the fourth time in a review by the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System. The evaluation noted efforts in renewable energy, waste reduction, and campus modernization at Ann Arbor (and Michigan Medicine). MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ U.S. Census estimates released May 14 show that many Washtenaw County communities had mixed changes from 2024 to 2025. Ann Arbor grew by 786 residents with a 0.65% increase & Saline Township led with a 6.5% boost while Ypsilanti Township lost 317 residents. MLive
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Michigan health officials report that 21 cases have been linked to backyard poultry amid three ongoing multistate Salmonella outbreaks; they advise thorough hand washing and keeping poultry outdoors (CDC offers guidance on safe practices) to protect high-risk groups (including children under five).
