ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Gary Nikkila died on April 15 in Ann Arbor when he was struck by his gravel hauler while reconnecting its trailer near Pauline Boulevard and Hutchins Avenue—police are investigating the crash as his family remembers him for his humor and trivia skill.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Council accepted a $200,000 state grant on May 19 for the FAST project to improve Fourth Avenue between William and Liberty (the grant is from MDOT). The project will add new bus stops, widened sidewalks and new lighting and is expected to cost over $8 million with work planned to start in 2026 (Downtown Development Authority leads the plan).  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Michigan baseball team must win the Big Ten Tournament to keep their NCAA hopes alive after a 2-4 finish against conference foes. They play Illinois at 11 a.m. today in Omaha — then face UCLA on Thursday as they try to extend their season.  MLive
  • ESPN has named Michigan quarterback Bryce Underwood (19) as the top college football freshman to watch in 2025 after he transferred from LSU and impressed during the spring game on April 19; Underwood will compete for the starting job this fall as redshirt freshman Jadyn Davis and injured Mikey Keene create new opportunities.  MLive
