EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ School officials in Ann Arbor and Chelsea raised concerns at recent board meetings over a proposed 1 mill tax to fund career and technical education programs starting in 2026; Ann Arbor postponed its discussion until June 11 while Chelsea will review the measure on June 9. Washtenaw ISD says the tax could help ease funding gaps as enrollment grows—officials remain cautious about its potential impact on housing costs and future taxpayers with a final decision expected at the WISD board meeting on June 24. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lawmakers on Tuesday advanced a bill that would require drivers to stop completely when a school bus has flashing yellow lights and remain stopped until the bus moves or turns off its lights. The proposal seeks to close a gap in the current law—violators would face fines between $100 and $500—after an incident in 2014 raised safety concerns at bus stops. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor City Council debated a land-use plan that would end single-family zoning to allow more apartments and homes—Council member Jen Eyer said the change will offer more choices for young people, older residents, and workers while some locals worry about blending industrial and residential areas. - ➤ Four-star tight end Matt Ludwig committed to the Wolverines on Tuesday—he is ranked No. 11 among tight ends nationally—and will take official visits to top schools this summer as Michigan builds its 2026 class. MLive
- ➤ Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore extended six assistant contracts ahead of the upcoming season and promoted tight-ends coach Steve Casula to co-offensive coordinator with a two-year deal paying $500,000 a year. Veteran assistant Chip Lindsey was hired in December to help run the offense—two other assistants received pay raises and three had their contracts extended through 2026. MLive
