ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Ann Arbor fire crews rescued two cats from a house fire on the 1000 block of Ravenwood Street after an e-bike battery exploded early Tuesday, May 26 and provided oxygen to one while transporting both to a local veterinary hospital.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra announced its 2026 to 2027 season with nine concerts starting in September at Hill Auditorium and Eastern Michigan University’s Pease Auditorium — blending classical masterworks and new commissions. Conductor Earl Lee will lead returning and debuting artists, and tickets go on sale Tuesday, July 14.  MLive
  • UM School of Music, Theatre and Dance students met Daniel Radcliffe in New York City on March 3 when the actor briefly said 'Go Blue' at the stage door of the play Every Brilliant Thing and a video of the encounter quickly went viral.  MLive

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Washtenaw Intermediate School District is inviting local candidates to apply as board treasurer since Sarena Shivers resigns on July 31 — applicants must submit letters by June 23, with reviews on June 30 and interviews on July 22 to serve until the next election in June 2027.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ann Arbor will test a rubberized asphalt made from recycled tires on Oakbrook Drive and Northbrook Place near Cranbrook Village this weekend, in a project with Michigan Technological University aimed to extend road life, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and boost safety.  MLive

HEALTH NEWS

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan reached a tentative long-term contract with Michigan Medicine (after months of tough talks). Final details will be completed before the anticipated June 30 renewal to keep in-network status for BCBS members at the Ann Arbor center intact.  ClickOnDetroit.com

  • University of Michigan bought Concordia’s campus for $60M and has not yet outlined a clear plan for its landmarks - the Chapel, Earhart Manor, and athletic fields may be repurposed for community use. Officials say they will carefully assess each facility before proceeding.  MLive
