- ➤ Two peregrine falcon chicks hatched on North Quad earlier this spring at the University of Michigan and the campus is inviting residents to submit name suggestions for the male and female until June 4; winning names will be announced on June 9. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Michigan schools reported 35,495 homeless students during the 2023-24 school year, which is up by 2,733 from the previous year — Ann Arbor Public Schools accounted for 336 of these students. MLive
- ➤ Eastern Michigan University announced on May 28 that it would end its engineering teaching partnerships with Beibu Gulf University and Guangxi University amid pressure from lawmakers over national security—officials said current students will finish their studies as the transition is arranged. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor construction crews will have a 48-hour window starting June 3 to install large concrete culverts that will form a new pedestrian tunnel connecting Bandemer Park and Barton Nature Area while a section of the park is closed for safety. The city approved a $4.8 million contract with Davis Construction Inc. for the Border-to-Border Trail project, which will be completed by fall—weather permitting. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor city officials have sent 65,653 mailers costing $40,535 to every household to explain council objectives and inform residents, with Ward 5 mailers scheduled next.
