COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Argus Farm Stop is a grocery store in Ann Arbor that sells almost all local products & supports Michigan farmers by letting them keep 70% of the sales. The store, which started in 2014 and now has three locations, gives local producers a much bigger financial boost than traditional grocery stores. WXYZ
- ➤ A recent FOIA request found that the number of city employees earning six figure salaries increased to 225 while over $40,000 was spent on customized ward mailers, and a new high end hotel opened as local track teams prepare for state finals. Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti cut ties with two Chinese universities amid political pressure, and a judge ordered Arbor One Apartments to make needed repairs — this week, many changes affected our region. - ➤ Ann Arbor will start its 5th Annual A2Zero Week tomorrow with over 30 events to support the push toward carbon neutrality by 2030. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Grace Elizabeth Brenner, 26, was charged with sending a homemade Molotov cocktail to a former partner when the weapon was discovered in a bag of belongings picked up on March 15 in Westland, and she is set to appear in court on June 17. MLive
- ➤ Ann Arbor police are asking for help finding a missing and endangered 14-year-old boy who was last seen May 29th at 10:30 a.m. near the intersection of Dexter and Maple (he wore a white Detroit Tigers jersey, glasses, and khaki cargo pants and was believed to be in a mental health crisis). - ➤ A Chinese national charged with illegal voting last fall fled the U.S. for China in January after missing his court hearings in Ann Arbor and now faces federal charges, federal authorities said. WXYZ
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor’s Historic District Commission announced 15 winners of its 38th annual historic preservation awards that recognize landmarks such as an elementary school and a downtown church — among other sites — with awards to be presented at the City Council meeting on June 2. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor Public Schools plan to sign a $45.4 million three-year contract with Durham School Services to manage 133 buses that serve 6,000 students daily starting July 1. Officials said the deal includes new communications tools, a return to a three-tier bus routing system for faster arrivals, and a pilot program for principals to access bus camera footage — with a final review set for the June School Board meeting. - ➤ Michigan will open its season at home on August 30 when it meets New Mexico, a team led by new coach Jason Eck from Idaho and an overhauled roster—Michigan is an early five-touchdown favorite as the game starts at 7:30 p.m. ET at Michigan Stadium. MLive
