- ➤ Ann Arbor residents have a busy weekend as the Summer Festival kicks off today at Top of the Park at 5:00 p.m. with free concerts and movies while the Comic Arts Festival runs June 14 to 15, the Library Summer Game continues until August 24, a paella master class is on Sunday from noon to 3:00 p.m., and a new Asian Night Market will take place on Friday from 5 to 9 p.m.—offering a mix of local events. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Superior Township trustee Nancy Caviston was sentenced on May 30 by Judge Kiefer Cox to pay $2,193.84 in restitution and serve two years of probation for misusing retirement contributions — she is no longer on the board after not running for reelection. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Two lawsuits filed this month ask a Washtenaw County judge to pause rebuilds of Thurston and Logan elementary schools over concerns about harming nature and lack of public input—one complaint was dismissed in early April when work began. The hearing on the motions is set for June 24. MLive
- ➤ University of Michigan raised its academic budget to $3B for the next fiscal year by expanding its Go Blue Guarantee & tuition programs. Academic, athletic and medical officials presented the proposals to the Board of Regents on June 12 in the Ruthven Building. MLive
- ➤ The Michigan Law School chapter of the ACLU sent a letter — signed by 800 students, faculty, staff, and alumni — urging the University of Michigan to remove surveillance cameras from the Diag and Law Quad after it ended using plainclothes investigators. The letter asks the school to pause camera use until an oversight committee is set up to review campus security measures. MLive

- ➤ At a Board of Regents meeting in Ann Arbor, Michigan athletics announced it will get $15 million from the general fund to help balance its fiscal-year 2026 budget as costs rise from student-athlete revenue sharing and increased scholarships. The department also reported a drop in ticket sales and plans job cuts and travel policy changes to manage expenses in the future. MLive
- ➤ Michigan football has targeted four-star wide receiver Zion Robinson from Mansfield, Texas, a top-200 prospect with 34 offers who visited Ann Arbor May 31st—June 1st to meet with coaches. Robinson praised Michigan’s education and athletic programs and will announce his college decision at the end of July. MLive
