- ➤ Pastor Anna Taylor-McCants of Ypsilanti received a $100K grant on The Kelly Clarkson Show to support FedUp Ministries in feeding local residents and providing hygiene services. She will use the money to build a community hub with a kitchen and gathering space. WXYZ

- ➤ Police ended a high-speed chase after a driver exceeded 130 mph on a Washtenaw County freeway when he crashed the car—officers had responded on Thursday to a shooting report at a home on Savage Road in Van Buren Township in Wayne County. MLive
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Data shows that over 600 students in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti faced homelessness during the 2023-24 school year. Ann Arbor Public Schools reported 336 students and Ypsilanti Community Schools 291 — making a total of over 900 homeless students across Washtenaw County. MLive

- ➤ Ann Arbor has released the second draft of its ambitious growth plan—over 130 pages that outline proposed land-use districts—available for public review. The plan can be downloaded from the city webpage. MLive
- ➤ The Michigan House passed a GOP higher education budget that cuts state funding for Michigan State and University of Michigan while boosting support for 13 smaller public universities. MSU will lose $55.6M — an 18.3% drop — and U of M will lose $234.4M — a 65.1% reduction — as the revised plan now heads to the Senate for review. MLive
