- ➤ Ann Arbor’s Broadway Park West will open this weekend along the Huron River with community events planned—transforming a formerly polluted industrial site on Broadway Street north of downtown into a new park. MLive
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor police searched overnight for 82-year-old Ralph Yang, who disappeared on June 23 after walking near Pin Oak Drive & White Oak Drive and suffers from Parkinson’s. MLive
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ann Arbor District Library Board President Molly Kleinman said that if voters pass Proposals A and B on Aug. 5, the downtown library project will include at least a 10,000—square—foot public plaza on the Library Lane site, as discussed at a busy forum on June 24. City Council Member Erica Briggs and supporters claim the plan will add outdoor play areas and event space without new taxes—critics, however, warn that the proposal promises more than it can deliver. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Developers plan a 10-story high-rise at the corner of First and Huron in downtown Ann Arbor to replace the Live nightclub and Last Word bar. The project will feature 280 apartments in a mix of studios, one-bedroom and two-bedroom units — 15% set aside as affordable housing for those earning up to 60% of the area median. MLive
- ➤ A new high-rise apartment building is proposed to replace old rental houses on Madison Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues in Ann Arbor — directly across from the University of Michigan marching band practice field. Pennsylvania-based GMH plans the building to be 13 to 14 stories tall on eight contiguous properties. MLive
