COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Ann Arbor police and community volunteers found 82-year-old University of Michigan professor emeritus Dr. Ralph Yang alive in a wooded area near Newport Road on Wednesday evening—he had been missing for two days after leaving his home. The man, who suffers from dementia and Parkinson's disease, is recovering at a local hospital and is expected to return home in a few days.  WXYZ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Community members in Ypsilanti Township are calling for safety improvements at Meritt and Tuttle Hill roads after a 14-year-old boy was killed riding his bike on June 18—residents petitioned local officials as authorities installed a speed radar sign and the county road commission evaluates additional measures near a community pool.  WXYZ

CRIME NEWS

  • A judge in 14A District Court ruled on June 26 that he will decide next month if Shuvonne Vinson—the final defendant in the foster family shooting—will go to trial.  MLive

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Ann Arbor Summer Festival wraps up Sunday with live music, art and kids’ activities—Shakespeare in the Arb holds its final performance today at 6:30 p.m. in Nichols Arboretum. In other parts of Washtenaw County, Chelsea will host a fireworks display with jousting and contests from 3 to 11 p.m., Saline will have a food truck festival from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and ARC Milan will celebrate Pride with drag events from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Legacy Land Conservancy will open nearly 80 acres of Iron Creek Preserve in Manchester Township on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The park features hiking trails, a rare wetland ecosystem and more than 1,000 feet of Iron Creek shoreline at 11703 Noggles Road - land donated by local owners.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan football strengthened its recruiting by landing verbal commitments from four-star receiver Zion Robinson and three-star offensive lineman Marky Walbridge, which lifted the program to No.15 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. Robinson is set to boost the passing game — while Walbridge was chosen over other finalists from top programs.  MLive
  • Michigan football announced that three-star offensive lineman Marky Walbridge from Needham, Massachusetts verbally pledged on social media for the 2026 class on Wednesday—he is the program’s second offensive lineman and eighth commit this month.  MLive
