COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Recent local news covers a nurse who tried to help 14‐year-old Lennon Leitzinger after a June 18 bike crash, a volunteer search that found retired professor Ralph Yang alive after three days missing, and a roadside delivery in Ypsilanti on June 11 that brought healthy baby Kyson Leforge McLilly into the world — stories of loss and hope in our city.   • Buddy’s Pizza will add a burger pizza and a Faygo Rock and Rye Float in July along with Buffalo cauliflower wings, four double-patty smash burgers, and onion rings. The new Smash Stacks menu will be served at full-service locations—while the Smash Stack Pizza will be available at all locations for a limited time.  MLive

CRIME NEWS

  • NFL coach Jim Harbaugh was added Friday to a lawsuit that accuses former assistant coach Matt Weiss of hacking college athletes' accounts to view intimate photos. The suit claims Harbaugh and other university officials knew of Weiss' actions before a major playoff game and allowed him to remain on staff.  WXYZ
  • A federal lawsuit filed by 11 women alleges that Michigan officials, including Jim Harbaugh and Santa Ono, allowed former coach Matt Weiss—who was seen accessing private student-athlete data in Schembechler Hall—to coach in the 2022 Fiesta Bowl despite knowing of his illegal actions.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Three-star linebacker recruit Markel Dabney, who was committed to SMU, verbally pledged to Michigan after an official visit — he became the Wolverines’ 16th commitment this cycle — as the team builds its class of 2026.  MLive
  • Michigan's football program announced that four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee committed to the team after his official visit on June 20—he chose Michigan over Alabama, Georgia and Texas in a live Friday night announcement.  MLive
  • Michigan football fired offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell after a 2024 season with too few effective passes and hired veteran Chip Lindsey to improve the offense — the Wolverines plan to use freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood with veteran players to build a balanced attack.  MLive
  • The Penguins traded up from No. 31 to No. 24 on Friday to select Michigan forward Will Horcoff (6-foot-5 rising sophomore) who scored 10 points in 18 games last season. Horcoff is the first Michigan player chosen in a draft that could see the program set a record with eight picks in one round.  MLive
