- ➤ Police responded at 10:36 p.m. on July 23 to a shooting at an apartment complex on Russell Street in Ypsilanti Township—one man died and another is in critical condition during an attempted armed robbery. MLive
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ On July 14, the Army Corps of Engineers began shipping 6,000 cubic yards of lightly irradiated waste from a New York site to a Texas facility after Wayne County residents protested dumping it at a local landfill and filed a lawsuit. County leaders said the move kept the Niagara Falls Storage Site cleanup on schedule — a decision that may help avoid further legal challenges. MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in four communities (Ann Arbor, Dexter, Milan, and Ypsilanti Township) will vote Tuesday, August 5 in the election, with Ann Arbor voters set to decide the fate of Library Lane property. MLive
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Justice demanded that Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson turn over Michigan’s voter rolls and a list of ineligible voters—Benson must respond by August 4 and explain how her office removes these registrations, noting that many issues have already been examined by the courts. MLive
- ➤ Federal regulators stated there are no significant hazards with Holtec’s plan to return fuel to the reactor vessel at Palisades in Covert, and testing, inspections, and repairs are set to continue with fuel loading possibly as early as Aug. 25. Holtec plans to restart the 800‐megawatt plant before year end (pending final NRC approvals) as local officials say the restart may boost energy reliability (and support local jobs). MLive
