Good morning, Ann Arbor. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 26th of July.

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Travel + Leisure ranked the University of Michigan's campus as No. 28 among the 30 most beautiful in the U.S., highlighting its historic Law Quad, Michigan League, and Hatcher Graduate Library. Other top schools such as Notre Dame, Cornell, and Yale also earned spots on the list.  MLive
  • The University of Michigan issued disciplinary notices to 11 student and alumni protesters between June 15 and July 1, with officials saying they support free speech but will act if it impedes others' rights—while a pro-Palestinian coalition claims the action is retaliatory after charges were dropped. The dispute comes after related protests and arrests at previous events near campus.  MLive

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State and regional environmental advocates and U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell rallied on July 25 against federal funding cuts that would shut down two NOAA labs in Michigan that monitor toxic algal blooms and other Great Lakes hazards. The proposed cuts would end $39.5 million in funding and eliminate 48 jobs that support safe navigation and local industries.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ryan Stanton reported that bedbugs multiply quickly in Ann Arbor Housing Commission properties and cause many problems for tenants. Units at Miller Manor are treated weekly—an effort to control the fast-growing infestation.  MLive

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Local builder Doug Selby said The Bridge is the future of housing in Ann Arbor’s oldest neighborhood—eco-friendly, luxury-branded condos at 530 N. Division St. are priced from $1.4M to $2.4M and behind the drywall tours will start in August.  MLive
