  • Slow's BBQ announced it will open a new location in downtown Ann Arbor — at 207 E. Washington on the site of the former Blue Tractor BBQ — and will open very soon; the expansion continues under new ownership with a Berkley location set to open this fall.  WXYZ
  • Slows Bar BQ, a popular barbecue spot from Corktown, announced it will open its third location in Ann Arbor this fall at 207 E. Washington St offering dine-in, carryout and catering. The restaurant will serve a menu featuring ribs, brisket and smoked chicken — continuing its growth as it nears its 20th anniversary.  ClickOnDetroit.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nearly 17,000 students returned on Monday, Aug. 25 to Ann Arbor Public Schools for the start of the 2025-2026 school year. The first day followed a half-day schedule and full days will resume Tuesday, Sept. 2—teachers welcomed students across several schools.  MLive

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ann Arbor named Malisa McCreedy as its new transportation manager effective Monday, Aug. 25. She brings over 20 years of public-sector experience—having led multimodal projects in Gainesville and other cities—and will work with city staff to improve safety by making walking, biking and bus travel easier.  MLive

SPORTS NEWS

  • Michigan named freshman quarterback Bryce Underwood as its season opener starter—he is the first true freshman to start since Tate Forcier in 2009. Coach Sherrone Moore made the decision after other players were hurt, and Underwood vowed to shock the world in his first season.  MLive
  • Michigan football will rely on five freshmen this season—Bryce Underwood is named the starting quarterback while wide receiver Andrew Marsh, edge rusher Nate Marshall and defensive backs Shamari Earls and Jayden Sanders are expected to play early.  MLive
